Wimps in Sports

Whatever people say about my generation and how we're a bunch of wimps, I know that I'm not.  I know that every time that I play a game, I desperately want to win.  And I know plenty of people like me, and I know plenty of people that are less competitive than me.  But I know that they kept score when I was playing AYSO.  I don't know if it really makes a difference, but dealing with wins and losses will be something that happens in everyone's lives.  So if they don't keep score in youth leagues, a generation of wimps won't emerge, but people less emotionally equipped to deal with losses might.

Let me leave you with a slightly unrelated amusing image I found on google:

  1. Hi Calvin,
I liked how you related the blog post to your own personal experience. I also do not like to lose and think you are right when you say not letting people lose will leave them unequipped to deal with losses in the real world.

  2. Calvin, I agree with what you are saying and you make good points, and I like how you relate it personally to you, because maybe there is a generation of wimps, but you aren't one, and I agree that that should be all that matters to you.

  3. I totally agree with you. When I was writing my own blog I thought that it is necessary to keep score in little leagues to teach kids the valuable lessons on what it feels like to loose and win. But after reading your blog a different thought came to mind. Your blog made me realize that it all depends on the kid. Nice job!
