My Name

My name is Calvin.  The name itself has very little significance to my parents (my dad picked it because he like Calvin & Hobbes).  I don't think my name has had too much impact on me as a person; its not too common but its common enough.  There is a comic series, a fashion line, a singer and a president all with my name, but not much else. I think my name fits me fine.  I think Gogol finds his name such a hindrance because its so unique that he doesn't feel like he can connect with anyone, which is not a problem for those who have common names (in his mind).  Even though I've met very few Calvin's, I haven't had that problem before.

  1. Calvin, I enjoyed reading your blog I thought it to be somewhat comical being that your name originated from one of my childhood favorites: Calvin & Hobbes. After reading your blog “My Name” I read your previous number “Heritage” which gave context of you and your family’s past. I gathered that you take little significance in your heritage being that neither your Chinese or Caucasian ethnicities are prominent factors in your life thus the name given to you has little historical significance. Assuming from these factors, you must find value in the person you are through the actions and choices that which you make in the present and in the future. Being that I too am half Asian (Japanese) and Caucasian I don’t distinguish myself as either as neither of the two cultures are predominate or taken seriously. However, your blog’s lightheartedness reminded me not to dwell on if I lived a traditional or cultural influenced upbringing.
